Welcome to

The Pochin School

I would like to take this opportunity to offer you a very warm welcome to The Pochin School website. We hope that you find it informative and exciting. If there is anything further you would like to know about our school please do not hesitate to contact us.

I am both proud and privileged to be the Headteacher of The Pochin School. Although we are a small school based at the heart of a rural community, our pupils come from many different backgrounds making our school family diverse.

We maintain many of the school’s traditions, valuing our Pochin School heritage, whilst providing a modern and forward thinking school experience based on meeting the needs of all our learners.

We aim to be an inclusive school, providing an exciting and stimulating curriculum which inspires our children to have an enquiring mind, to develop a love of learning and to equip them with the skills and confidence to have happy, healthy and successful futures. We strive to ensure they feel safe and happy so that they can achieve their personal potential in all areas of school life.

We are fortunate to have an extremely dedicated team of staff, Governors and volunteers; well behaved and enthusiastic pupils; supportive parents and an excellent PTA.

The Pochin School is a member of the Bradgate Education Partnership.

Mrs Heather Sharpe
Headteacher

The Pochin School is a co-educational school for children aged four to eleven years in the village of Barkby. We also have a term-time pre-school based in the Village Hall for three and four year old children.

Many of the children come from outside the catchment area from the surrounding villages and Hamilton. In total we have approximately 160 children.

The main building was built in 1869 and enlarged in 1894. It is a Grade 2 listed building that has been modernised recently to make it suitable for the 21st Century whilst maintaining its character.

The school has five classes. Outside, we have two playgrounds, one for the Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 children and one for the Key Stage 2 children. The Cricket Pitch is used as a sports field and we use the Village Hall for dinners, assemblies and PE.
