Local Advisory Board

On behalf of all the governors of The Pochin School, we would like to welcome you to the governor page.

Our governors are volunteers and are parents, professionals and members of the community from all walks of life, who bring their varied skills, experience and enthusiasm to support the leadership of the school.

Our governors sit on and work as a Local Advisory Board (LAB) to the school.

The aim of our Governor team is to work with the staff in helping the children to achieve their full potential in a happy and caring environment.

Our key roles are:

  • To hold the school to account for the educational standards it achieves.
  • Deciding on how the resources of the school are best used.
  • Planning ahead so that the performance of our children and school continue to improve.
  • Making sure the school buildings are welcoming and safe.
  • Celebrating the school’s successes.

Our work includes helping to prepare policies, planning the budget, visiting the school, appointing staff, monitoring the performance and progress of our children, performance managing the headteacher and making sure the curriculum provides for and stretches all pupils.

We meet as a full governing body at least three times a year and in addition all governors are members of smaller committees that deal with education, finance, health and safety or human resources. We also have dedicated governors who are responsible for pupil safeguarding, special educational needs and the training and development of governors.

All of our governors have access to high quality training, which enables us to improve our skills and keep us up to date.

Governors also play an active part in school life by attending events such as sports day and school trips, performances and fundraisers.

If you would like to contact a governor at any time, or ask about becoming a governor in the future, please contact our Clerk to Governors, Mrs Bustin at office@pochin.bepschools.org .

We look forward to a continued successful partnership with you.

Governor Profiles

Mrs K Sheppard – Chair of Governors

I was appointed parent governor in June 2016 and my reason for taking on this voluntary role is to support and continue to help in making the Pochin school the outstanding school that it is. I have two children who attend the school, Fenn and Tula. I moved to Leicester from Surrey in 2003 and started to work for Leicestershire partnership NHS trust as a community nursing assistant in the learning disability service. I did this role for 13 years and I’m currently in a seconded position as the referral management coordinator for the learning disability service. I am also an active member of the PTA and have been the secretary for the past four years.

Miss V Garratt

Born in Leicester I was brought up and educated in Thurmaston and Syston and have been involved in Scouting and Guiding in Thurmaston since the age of six. I have worked in a variety of industries since leaving school, including manufacturing, drug and alcohol action services team and education services. Having spent several years working as a Health and Safety Advisor and Trainer within the Education Authority at Leicestershire County Council, myself, and my Business Partner, took the plunge in 2011 and went into business as ‘Leicester Health + Safety Training Limited’, providing Health and Safety Consultancy Services and training to both Schools and Businesses in and around Leicestershire, including certificated First Aid Training to both adults and children. Through my work within the local authority and my own Business I have a long history of working with the staff and pupils of The Pochin School in a wide variety of areas and was happy to be asked to join the Governing Body. During my tenure at The Pochin School I aim to be able to contribute to the Management of the School and help to maintain its outstanding rating.

Mr V Samani

Having been part of the school fabric for over 5 years both as parent to 3 children across key stages 1 & 2(Eva, Ariana & Shayen) and as a parent volunteer attending many school trips and assisting with football coaching, I feel well placed and motivated to be part of an internal team to learn and understand more about the direction of the school and primary education in general. In addition, having supported a local Leicestershire charity ‘Alex’s Wish’ for anumber of years, working with children of varying ages as a Level 2 qualified football coach and being a business owner in the finance sector for over 20 years , I feel this has helped me to gain invaluable experiences and commercial awareness which I hope to bring to this role adding value where needed.

A final driver to volunteer is due to the belief that it’s vital for a village school of this size to continue to get support from the local community, the PTA and parents alike working in partnership, being challenged where required in order to thrive in it’s objective to provide the best possible education for the pupils therefore where possible I would like to add to this support in the role of parent governor & offer a varying voice working in collaboration with the current members & the wider governing trust.

Mrs J Pancholi

I have been part of Pochin School for over 6 years and have volunteered on school trips, STEM days and Diwali celebrations. I’m passionate about Pochin School and the team that makes Pochin such a great school and I hope to take this passion into my role as Governor to ensure that this continues. I feel part of the internal team and look forward to helping to further improve the school for all children in our care.

Working as a STEM Ambassador and supporting children and schools I feel has helped me to gain invaluable experience and awareness of safeguarding which I hope to bring to this role and adding value to Pochin where needed.

Mrs S Chugh

I joined the governing board in January 2023 as a parent governor.  It is a great honour to serve the school and the local community, and I look forward to working with the team to continually improve the environment and education for those who attend this excellent school.

I am a mum of two and my elder son Raghav is currently in Class 1 and the younger one Aarav will be starting Pre-school in the next term.

I am a qualified Lean and Six sigma practitioner and have worked in several industries in Supply chain and Manufacturing sectors implementing these principles. For the last 12 years I have been working for the Global Oilfield Services Company Schlumberger. Over the several positions I have held in the past, I have worked with multiple cross cultural teams to streamline processes and enhance efficiencies. This has helped with gain invaluable experience in breaking barriers to bring teams together while driving value added processes.

My husband and I moved to Leicester from Leeds in 2019, and I feel very blessed to have found a wonderful community of friends and support through the school. This has been a huge motivator to be more involved and contribute back to this lovely community and work with the brilliant staff and parents to enhance the experience of our children who attend this school and see them thrive and enjoy learning in a safe environment.

I serve as the Treasurer for the School PTA as well. As a governor now, I aim to offer my experience and skills to the management of the school and maintain its outstanding rating.
