ENGLISH

In English, we will be looking at setting descriptions and poetry linked to topic work and diary writing linked to our science topic.  We will be working on our key skills in grammar and punctuation as well as our spelling and handwriting.  In reading, we will be working on our comprehension skills, in particular our understanding new and rich vocabulary as well as developing out ability to infer and deduce.

MATHS

In mathematics, we will be working on our place value knowledge and calculation skills for the four number operations.  We will also continue to work on our recall of times-table facts up to 12 x 12.   It would be great if you could encourage the children to continue to work on these at home using Times Table Rockstars.  We will also be doing some cross-curricular maths on co-ordinates, measures and shape.

TOPIC

Our topic for this term is ‘Extreme Earth’ which a brilliant topic that the children will love!  We will be learning all about natural disasters, in particular volcanoes, earthquakes and tsunamis.

In Science, the children will begin to look at rocks and fossils! Our Art will focus on making a sculpture and painting in the style of a given artist.  We also hope to do some printing – watch this space!

Our PE sessions will be on a Thursday afternoon with our P.E. coach and on a Friday afternoon with the class teacher.  All of our lessons this half term will be focused on Tag Rugby.

Please continue to encourage your children to read on a regular basis at home and we will send some further information about homework projects that you can take part in if you choose.

If you have any questions or worries, please do not hesitate to speak to us – we are more than happy to help.
