Class 1

Welcome to Class 1

In Class 1, we have 10 year 1 children and 19 EYFS children.

Year 1 children have moved from early learning goals to the National Curriculum outcomes. Although the children in year 1 have access to continuous provision to extend and develop their learning, the children are working towards end of year expectations as detailed in National Curriculum documentation. Early years education is special and unique with its focus on child development, effective learning characteristics and holistic approaches. Carefully planned continuous provision will enable children to learn skills, will challenge their thinking and help them to embed concepts. We provide the context for a variety of learning conversations between children and adults with rich opportunities for modelling and extending speech and vocabulary. Within our learning environment, children will also develop key learning attributes.

Mrs Partridge is the class teacher and Mrs Sykes is the learning support assistant. Both practitioners plan, deliver and review the children’s learning together to ensure consistent and strong outcomes for all. If you have any questions, please speak to either member of staff at the beginning or the end of the day. Alternatively you can email the school office.

Homework

Year one children’s homework will be set on a Friday and due in the following Thursday. The homework will be stuck in the children’s purple homework book.

In addition to practising their weekly spellings, the children will benefit from reading to an adult for 10 minutes each night. If you find that your child is a little reluctant, read together.

Each term, the children will be given a pick and mix homework sheet. Your child can select the tasks that appeal most to them. Please encourage your child to be as independent as possible as we love to see their work.

While the children are still settling into school life, the EYFS children will not be required to complete homework. Instead, we ask that you spend time playing games, reading and singing lots of songs with your child.
